Report Date:
2021-01-01
Abstract:
Service members whose illnesses or injuries call into question their ability to fulfill their military duties may be referred by a health care provider to the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES), a joint program of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This program is responsible for determining whether the individual is fit for duty as guided by his or her military department standards and requirements. If the servicemember is found to be unfit, he or she is medically discharged from military service
