Abstract:
The PI studied: In the first part, I) Synthetic snapping structures inspired by the Venus flytrap leaf, II) Biological, multistable mechanism underlying snapping of the earwig wing. In the second part, I) further Biological, multistable mechanism underlying snapping of the earwig wing and II) the possibilities for sensing through changes of stable state in microstructured bistable composites, which resulted in biologically-inpired mechanosensing. The grant was successful, but no formal final technical report was obtained, though progress summaries were submitted.
