Title:
Measurement of Dielectric Constant by Using a Radial Waveguide
Report Date:
1961-08-01
Abstract:
A method for measuring permittivity, epsilon, is derived from the equations of the fields in a shorted radial wave guide obtained from the Maxwell equations. The method is checked by measuring epsilon r(1), the relative dielectric constant, and tan delta, the loss tangent, for three samples by measuring in a radial slot in the guide, the wave length and the VSWR at one minimum of known distance from the short at room temperature and at a frequency of 9375 mc/s. The method shows promise of measuring epsilon r(1) at frequencies as high as k band and at high temperatures limited only by the metal used in the guide itself.
