Abstract:
The analysis of lightning, radar, and sounding data for two summer months in south Florida has shown that there is a relationship between the degree of cloud-to-ground flash activity during the day and certain combinations of meteorological parameters detected early in the morning before a significant convection develops. In general, it appears that clouds tend to be better flash producers per unit area under conditions of suppression of convection and light winds. As the atmosphere becomes disturbed, the clouds although greater in numbers tend to be less intense in their lightning activity. Author
