Abstract:
Tests up to Mach number 0.79 show that sharply increasing down-load is required to balance increased diving moment of wing-fuselage-propeller group above 0.70. Beyond Mach number 0.65 tail-load gradient decreased rapidly until Mach number 0.73, then sharply increased up to Mach number 0.785. Root bending moments increased considerably on right tail and decreased on left tail resulting in increased fuselage torsional moments at high speeds. Experimental results compared with the calculated show calculated compressibility corrections to be small.
