Abstract:

Advantages gained by skewed position of a single-rotating propeller of a single-engine airplane are demonstrated by estimated and flight tests results. The skewed thrust axis is an effective method of overcoming inadequate rudder control in low-speed powered flight, and it increases aileron control, particularly with flaps deflected. Lower vertical tail loads and rudder control forces are attainable with skewed thrust axis.
