Abstract:
Gateway to Care is the U.S. Armys Coordinated Care Program. Gateway to Care gives the hospital commander the authority to coordinate health care resources to meet the needs of all the beneficiaries in his catchment area, in the most efficient and effective way. The hospital commander is responsible for managing both the Operations and Maintenance, Army OMA and the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services CHAMPUS budgets. CHAMPUS has been experiencing rapid increases in costs. Consequently one of the primary objectives of Gateway to Care is to slow the growth of CHAMPUS costs. Keller Army Community Hospital KACH has been directed to implement the Gateway to Care concept. In order to more accurately implement this concept, the characteristics of the beneficiary population must be determined. The analysis of the KACH beneficiary population has been accomplished by accessing various information systems and by using a beneficiary questionnaire. The results of this analysis are being used by the KACH leadership as they continue to implement Gateway to Care. Gateway to care, Coordinated care program.
