This report is written in the form of a users manual for exciplex-based vaporliquid visualization systems. It attempts to bring together in one handbook all the photophysical is otherwise skilled with planar laser induced fluorescence. In addition, it attempts to identify the major assumptions required for the derivations, to define the experimental conditions under which near quantitative interpretation of the fluorescence is possible, and to recommend protocols for visualization experiments. The best visualization systems developed so far are based on the exciplex formed between N, N, N, N-tetramethy-p-phenylenediamine TMPD and Napthalene or 1-Methylnapthtalene. For these systems, when used with n-tetradecane as the solvent fuel, it should be possible to measure the liquid and vapor mass concentrations in a volume element of or - 25, provided that oxygen is excluded.
