Report Date:

1987-11-01

Abstract:

In this report, the feasibility of installing a new compressed gas driver at the existing BRL Shock Tube Facility is examined. The new driver would be three feet in diameter, 80 feet long, and would be installed in the space now occupied by the existing eight foot diameter driver. The new driver would be capable of holding an internal pressure of 1,760 psi and would be equipped with electric strip heaters to control the temperature of stored gas at 325 K to 650 K. A nitrogen has pressurization system would be used with the new driver. The report concludes the facility modifications are feasible and outlines specific alterations which are needed. Construction costs were estimated to be about 1.1 million, and construction time was estimated to be 8 to 10 months. Keywords Blast tubes, Diaphragms, Dynamic loads, Pressure vessels, Shock tubes, Test beds.
