Abstract:
Tests have been conducted on several nickel-cadmium cells that have exhibited a variety of performance problems, ranging from high voltages and pressures during overcharge to low capacity. The performance problems that have been specifically linked to the cadmium electrode are primarily related to two areas, poor sinter and the buildup of excessive pressure during overcharge. A number of specific nickel-cadmium cell and cadmium electrode characteristics have been studied in this work to determine what the effects of poor sinter overcharge in cells that otherwise appear normal. Several of the tests appear suitable for screening and electrodes for such problems.
