Title:
Fluid Dynamic Aspects of Wind Energy Conversion
Corporate Author:
ADVISORY GROUP FOR AEROSPACE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE (FRANCE)
Report Date:
1979-07-01
Abstract:
A review is made of the fluid dynamic aspects of wind energy conversion. A short survey of the total framework of wind energy conversion is given to bring the fluid dynamics aspect in its proper dimensions. Next, the several wind concentrator concepts are discussed, while the main body of the report is formed by a discussion of the theory of wind-driven turbines, including both the horizontal-axis and the vertical-axis turbines. The report concludes with a survey of inhomogeneous flow and turbulence effects, turbine control and wake interference effects.
