Abstract:
A study of USN-USAF interaction for the ocean surveillance role is conducted to consolidate fact and opinion concerning coordination issues. Selected USAF aircraft B-52, FB-111, F-111, RC-135, C-130 are compared with the USN P-3 and are found to be capable of certain surveillance functions and likely to be available for the surveillance role through a range of world situations. Recommendations for methods to overcome restrictive organizational conditions include creation of a small joint Navy-Air Force agency to translate established policy into effective operational procedures.
