Report Date:

Abstract:
The results of an exploratory development program conducted for the Air Force Materials Laboratory to define, develop, and demonstrate a slotted metal coating for radomes are reported. In this program a number of approaches for fabricating a metallic radome were defined. Of these approaches, three were developed and evaluated. The evaluation considered environmental resistance, electrical performance and economic factors. The following environmental tests were performed which demonstrate the feasibility of building a flightworthy resonant metal radome lightning and rain erosion resistance, precipitation static reduction, temperaturehumidityaltitude cycling, corrosion and solvent resistance, and sunshine exposure.
