Title:
Sealed Primary Lithium-Inorganic Electrolyte Cell.
Corporate Author:

Report Date:

Abstract:
Research continued on the shelf life evaluation of the hermetic LiSOCl2-1MLiAlCl4 - D cell that the authors developed during the first three quarters. Explosion hazard studies have been carried out in an effort to find ways and means of alleviating the problem. The explosion hazards of the cells can be reduced by decreasing the effective electrode areas with a corresponding loss in the rate capability of the cell. Whether or not this will prevent the fire hazards on forced discharge is still unknown. The program has been extended for six months to permit a more detailed study of the explosion hazards.
