Abstract:

In this program we have leveraged the power and flexibility inherent in our recently developed atomic calligraphy technology and used it to create low cost, tunable optical metamaterials for use in the visible and IR. In the battlefield of the future, optical radiation will be used for both locating a platform as well as destroying it and that radiation will be multi-frequency andor dynamically tunable. The optical properties of any platform that one wishes to survive in such an environment will need to be dynamic as well. Our metamaterials allow the system designer to build platforms whose optical properties can be tuned in real time, responding to rapidly changing threats in its environment.
