Abstract:
This report is related to an effort that seeks to develop autonomous sensors for environmental monitoring of changes in bacterial populations. The approach uses porphyrin modified antimicrobial peptides to produce colorimetric signatures, enabling the use of devices originally developed for chemical sensing applications. Here, we describe initial work focused on development of the covalent porphyrin-peptide constructs and the evaluation of those materials in the presence and absence of bacterial targets in aqueous solution.
