Title:
Equatorial Ionospheric Irregularities Study from ROCSAT Data
Corporate Author:
NATIONAL CENTRAL UNIVERSITY CHUNGLI Taiwan
Report Date:
2017-10-20
Abstract:
Ionospheric irregularityscintillation occurrences can be caused by external driving elements, such as the global fast penetration electric field during a storm period. Under such conditions, the longitudinaltemporal occurrences of irregularitiesscintillation will depend on the appearance and disappearance of the global fast penetration electric field. The AFRL-NCU SCINDA Pingtung station observed such an example during the 2015 St. Patricks Day superstorm period. Comparing the occurrences and nonoccurrence of irregularitiesscintillation in the Indian and Taiwan sector, it was concluded that the longitudinallocal-time dependence of irregularityscintillation occurrences at the two different longitudinal sectors was due to the southward turning of interplanetary magnetic field that caused the appearances and disappearances of the global fast penetration electric field.
