Abstract:
The present invention is a lithium ion electrochemical cell utilizing a silicon-based lithium ion receiving material. Silicon is a promising, but not yet widely commercialized, anode material for lithium ion rechargeable batteries. Capacity fading is a problem that can occur in silicon-based anodes during cycling, lithium insertion and deinsertion. Mitigation of this problem has long been sought and will result in improved anode cycling characteristics, higher battery capacity, and longer cycle life.
