Abstract:
Since 1995 the Swiss Armed Forces have implemented two major reforms which caused several negative aftermaths in the leader training and education. The next reform WEA Weiterentwicklung der Armee continued development of the Armed Forces will try to fill the current gaps in the application of mission command philosophy. The purpose of this study is to research how does the planned changes under WEA prepare Swiss Armed Forces organizational level leaders to operate under mission command philosophy. Using the US Armys Leader Development Model and the US Army Leadership Requirements Model as a lens the research explores the leader education in the Swiss Armed Forces. Therefore, the study recommends to pay more attention in how to lead the WEA implementation and execution. Furthermore, the self-development domain as an essential part of the leader development, can be improved by inspiring and developing lifelong learner and creating a comprehensive long-term self-development plan.
