Abstract:
Purpose To summarize Army Public Health Center activities related to injury surveillance and prevention in support of the Soldier Medical Readiness Campaign SMRC, 2011-2014. Execution In January 2011, APHC was tasked to provide an Action Officer to assist with campaign plan development and oversee six strategic objectives aimed to coordinate, synchronize, and integrate Army health promotion and injury prevention and human performance optimization IPHPO efforts and contribute to SMRC strategic communication. A General Officer Steering Committee GOSC began meeting in January 2011 the campaign plan was released in April 2011. SMRC initiatives were tracked during monthly Action Officer Working Group meetings and quarterly GOSCs. Reporting of metrics in the Army Strategic Management System SMS began in January 2013. Campaign Injury Prevention Products APHC Injury Prevention lead three initiatives related to medical readiness surveillance, including conducting injury surveillance for Soldiers during initial entry training, an epidemiologic analysis to identify the leading medical diagnoses and characteristics of Army medical non-ready status, and production of information papers summarizing deaths among active duty Soldiers, injury-related medical encounter data, and disability discharges among Regular Army and ReserveNational Guard Soldiers. In support of SMRC objectives to inform evidence-based IPHPO programs and policies throughout the deployment cycle, APHC Injury Prevention conducted evaluations of physical training programs in three Brigade Combat Teams the largest series of field investigations of injuries and physical fitness in operational Army units to date. continues below, in additional information
