Abstract:
While naval activity during the War of 1812 can be divided into three distinct operational environments blue water, littoral, and inlandfreshwater, inarguably the latter was the most feasible for the fledgling American nation to exploit due to its proximity and relatively limited resources it would require. It was also the most critical domain for the United States war aim of controlling British Canada for the purpose of negotiating an advantageous peace.
