Title:

Ad Hoc Committee on RPV.

Corporate Author:

ARMY SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY PANEL WASHINGTON DC

Report Date:

1974-04-01

Abstract:

Among the conclusions reached by the committee are the following 1 Current state-of-the-art in avionics, sensors, and vehicles should allow the development of Remotely Piloted Vehicle Systems having adequate levels of field suitability, capability, reliability and cost to be useful and useable as Army field systems 2 Real time target acquisition for conventional artillery operations is an appropriate prime task around which the initial RPAODS effort should be focused 3 RPVs have significant potential for Army use IN TARGET DESIGNATION, SURVEILLANCE, TARGET DESTRUCTION, ELECTRONIC WARFARE, AIR DEFENSE COUNTERMEASURES, COMMAND AND CONTROL, AND MOBILE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE 4 The Army is not aggressively exploiting the potentials of remotely piloted vehicles to improve its combat capability and 5 The RPAODS program is not being planned and conducted in a manner likely to overcome existing Army user negative biases in the near future.
