Abstract:
The ability of four pilots to acquire and track a target using a helmet-mounted sight was measured. Five flight tests were made to determine the effect of off-boresight angle, angular rate, and acceleration on acquisition and tracking accuracy. Accuracy data were collected using a helmet-mounted television camera that was aligned with the sight. The results indicated that off-boresight angle and angular rate had little effect on sighting performance. Increased acceleration degraded performance. The median radial error was 0.8 deg. Author
