Title:
Effects of Polar Cap Absorption Events on the Omega Navigation System.
Corporate Author:

Report Date:
1973-10-01
Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration FAA sponsored a program at the Naval Research Laboratory NRL to investigate the effects of polar cap absorption PCA events and other propagation anomalies on the Omega navigation system. Data were collected at NRL and with the cooperation of the Canadian Ministry of Transport at four locations in Canada. A large PCA event occurred during August 1972. Data taken at NRL show that the Composite Omega technique could be used to reduce the error due to this event from about 16 miles to about 3 miles. Since this investigation was conducted during the declining portion of the sunspot cycle, only a few PCA events were observed. Author
