Corporate Author:

Report Date:
1973-04-01
Abstract:
This report reviews the work performed to generate subsystem and system-level design specifications for a general-purpose, radiation-hardened MOS array spacecraft computer. Detailed survey and trade-off investigations were performed to determine the optimum device technologies suitable for use in four subsystem designs. Subsystem hardware, computer architecture, functional capabilities of the over-all machine, and software requirements were defined. The above investigations resulted in the specification of a radiation-hardened aerospace computer based primarily on CMOSSOS Al2O3 and MNOSSOS technology. The computer shall be suitable for use in spacecraft data management systems subject to a burst-type nuclear-radiation environment. The survivable computer shall operate with a machine cycle time of 500 nanoseconds, shall have a repertoire of 52 macro-instructions, weigh less than ten pounds, consume less than 10 watts of power, and shall be packaged in less than 860 cubic inches in its basic configuration. The computer shall be capable of floating-point arithmetic and a fixed-point 32-bit addition time of one microsecond. Author
