Report Date:

Abstract:
The 800-pound modular weapons series MWS bomb was ground and flight tested to determine structural integrity, obtain separation characteristics, and obtain ballistics data. The structural integrity of the bombfin assembly quick-attachment clamp was verified by ground overload and vibration tests. Physical compatibility was demonstrated on the inboard pylon and all stations of the F-4 aircraft inboard triple ejection rack TER, except for a slight variance in the desired 1-inch minimum store-to-store clearance MIL-STD-1289. There is only a 58-inch clearance between the fin of the bomb on TER station 3 right shoulder and the bomb on station 1 bottom. Safe captive carriage compatibility and weapon separation were demonstrated with the bombs loaded on the inboard TER stations of the F-4 aircraft. Release conditions ranged from 0.62 mach at 9.464 feet AGL to 1.13 mach at 13,370 feet AGL. Ballistics data were obtained for the flight tests of the ten 800-pound MWS bombs. The average ballistic dispersion was 3.4 mils circular error probable. Author
