Abstract:
This study report is presented in two volumes. This volume includes a discussion of the study approach, a summary of the results, and recommendations for future development as well as the details and analysis of the study methods and results. An avionics multiplex system suitable for the Night AX was developed, based on an avionics suite chosen for a basic clear weather Night Attack mission. Analysis of various types of transmission media, transmission link coupling, message routing and modulation methods is included. Extensive use of computerized data flow analysis was used to calculate system bit rates and the length of signal paths and to aid in message formatting. The recommended system utilizes Biphase-Level base-band modulation in the centrally controlled terminal-to-terminal direct data transfer system with a data rate of 500 kilobitssecond expandable to 1.5 megabitssecond. The application of multiplexing to the Night AX Avionics System is shown to offer the potential for significant improvement in systems effectiveness and reduced aircraft life cycle costs. Author
