Abstract:
This report presents a synopsis of developmental efforts of optical character recognition OCR systems and describes and evaluates the techniques, applications, problems, and economics of past and present optical character reader OCR systems. Included within the synopsis are articles extracted from various journals and magazines and contract reports. A summation of technical OCR concepts is discussed by combining the outstanding technical portions from those articles which the author deems as a direct consequence in the development of a futuristic OCR system.
