Report Date:

Abstract:
The objective of this ion exchange study was to determine the most efficient ion exchange system for use on cyanide electroplating wastes. Three strong cation resins, Duolite C-20, Dowex MSC-1, and Amberlite IR-120-plus were tested with regard to their efficiency to remove cyanide, heavy metals Ni, Cd, and sodium. The results show that cation exchange resins do not remove enough cyanide and heavy metals from the electroplating wastes to render them safe for discharge into municipal sewage systems and the cation resins do not sufficiently break down the cyanide complexes of nickel.
