Abstract:

An electronic fuse which can survive 60,000 g and provide delays from milliseconds to hundreds of seconds has been successfully used in a variety of unusual gun launched projectile applications. Projectiles have been launched vertically to altitudes of 70 to 105 kilometers and parachute payloads ejected or high explosives detonated for seeding experiments in the earths upper atmosphere. The fuse has provided induced yawing motion to projectiles for in-flight dynamic stability studies. The timing accuracy for ejection is better than 0.5 percent but serious difficulties are encountered in using the fuse to detonate high explosives at apogee. Author
