Abstract:
Two methods are presented for measuring the degree of rf coupling between a transmitting antenna and an aircraft placed in the near field. The methods differ only in circuit configuration and consist of measuring rf current into a known matched load when the transmitting antenna is radiating a specified amount of rf power. The resulting voltage and impedance data are used to calculate the maximum available power at the aircraft weapon stations. The two methods agree favorably. Data are presented for the A-4 and F-6 aircraft in many different coupling configurations of frequencies from 2 to 26 MHz. The results show that an aircraft may couple more than 500 watts of rf power into a matched load when the aircraft is placed within 10 feet of an antenna which is producing a 100 voltmeter field at that distance.
