Abstract:
Pulsating flow hydraulic techniques of transmitting power by oscillatory fluid flow in lines appear to offer substantial improvements over existing hydraulic techniques. Inherent abilities of this technique are isolation, pressureflow transformation, and synchronization. A three-phase pulsation flow system was evaluated at flows up to 14 GPM and pressures up to 3000 PSI and its operation compared with a conventional system. Possible applications of pulsating flow techniques and methods of applying them are discussed. Problem areas and possible solutions are also included. Pulsating flow hydraulics offers considerable promise for providing increased survivability, higher reliability, and higher temperature operation than existing hydraulic techniques. Author
