Abstract:
The purpose of the free-fall sensor program was to design and develop a free-fall sensor system and to fabricate and test a limited number of sensors to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept. Phase I of the two-phase effort encompassed the design and development effort followed by Air Force drop tests which demonstrated the feasibility of the design and concept. The follow on Phase II effort involved 1 the redesign of the Phase I sensor to improve performance and the exposure of the redesigned sensor to vibrational tests, and 2 the design and fabrication of an instrumentation system consisting of flight instrumentation units and a playback test set to monitor and check performance of the free-fall sensors during a test bomb drop. Air Force tests demonstrated the improved performance obtained with the Phase II design. Author
