AIR FORCE AEROSPACE MEDICAL RESEARCH LAB WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH
A method for comparing visibility from the cockpits of selected aircraft is presented. The ground areas visible to each eye from the pilot copilot positions in the level aircraft attitude are given for the A-1E pilot, A-1E copilot, A-7A, A-26A pilot, A-26A copilot, C-123B copilot, F-5A, F-5B front, F-5B rear, F-105D, F-111A pilot, O-1A pilot, O-2 pilot, OV-10A pilot, and RF-4C front. Ground areas are also presented for the RF-4C at selected attitudes of pitch and roll. The ground area visible within sectors of the terrain, defined in terms of ground radii, slant ranges, and positions relative to the aircraft, is expressed as a percent of the total area within the sector. These percentages are valid for any altitude since ground radii and slant ranges are expressed as multiples of altitude.
