Abstract:

The advent of the digital computer has stimulated research in the establishment of man-machine communications. Since speech is mans most natural method of communications a voice-link with data processing systems would provide the most basic type of input. This report describes an automatic speech recognition system which could provide some capability in voice communications with machines. This system is fully automatic and can recognize a finite number of words spoken in isolation. The word recognition system is composed of a hardware and software subsystem. The flexibility incorporated in the software subsystem allowed for the wide range of experimentation needed to assess the capability of the overall system. These experimental investigations are described in detail and the advantages and disadvantages of the system are discussed. Author
