Title:
Passive Optical Intercept Simulator and Active Optical Intercept Simulator.
Corporate Author:
GENERAL ELECTRIC CO PHILADELPHIA PA RE-ENTRY SYSTEMS DEPT
Report Date:
1969-11-01
Abstract:
This final report documents the function, design, operation, and maintenance of the Passive and Active Optical Intercept Simulators now installed in, and in continuous use by the Relative Motion Simulation Laboratory at AFATL. Also covered are the concepts, philosophies, and trade-offs which led to the realization of this program. Electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, and optical design details are presented in full. The report covers the Passive Optical Intercept Simulator first because it represents the first working simulator to become operational at the Laboratory May, 1968. The modular addition of a second projection subsystem including a mirror rotating at the other end of the Incredyne motor shaft, folding wall mirrors and a retro-reflective fence at the existing spherical mirror, rotating mirror drive, transparency control, and data acquisition subsystems transforms this simulator into the Active Optical Intercept Simulator described in the remainder of the report. The challenge of reporducing as faithful a dynamic target as a sensor under test can discern was met in both instances with the specified high dynamic target position accuracy. Author
