Title:
Testing of a Vent Free Feed System in a Simulated Space Environment.
Corporate Author:
AIR FORCE ROCKET PROPULSION LAB EDWARDS AFB CA
Report Date:
1970-03-01
Abstract:
This report describes an extensive test program conducted by the AFRPL for the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of a concept for maintaining a fluorine tank in a no-vent condition. That test program also performed storability tests on an insulation system designed to reduce the total heat input to the cryogenic propellants. The experimental test data were analyzed by Martin Marietta Corporation the same contractor that constructed the test item. The results of that analysis are reported in AFRPL-TR-69-200 which was published in September 1969. The discussion within this document describes the test facility used by the AFRPL as well as the test item itself. Cryogenic test system design information which is critical to the successful testing of cryogenic systems inside a vacuum chamber is emphasized. The remainder of the report is devoted to a discussion of the types of tests conducted and a discussion of the data trends observed. Author
