Title:
Environmental Sensitivity of Structural Metals: Liquid Metal Embrittlement.
Corporate Author:
ILLINOIS INST OF TECH CHICAGO
Report Date:
1969-10-01
Abstract:
The research program is intended to attack the problem of liquid metal embrittlement on a broad front. Of the eleven research topics reported here, the first two are primarily aimed at the mechanism by which the atoms of the embrittling species are carried to the crack tip, the next four are largely concerned with the embrittling mechanism itself, the next three with the influence of metallurgical, physical, and chemical properties on the embrittlement, and the tenth topic with a theoretical treatment of the fracture problem from a statistical mechanical viewpoint. The last topic covers a related research effort on liquid embrittlement of polymers. Author
