Abstract:
Questionnaire data on experimental backgrounds and career plans of naval officers were analyzed as a function of expressed career decisions, sea or shore duty assignment, designators, and officer procurement programs. Twenty-seven items indicating positive or negative attitudes toward a Navy career were related to six general factors general job conditions, initial career plans, financial compensation, effect on home life, traditional Navy appeal, and specific job conditions. These factors were related to career decision groups and sea vs. shore duty assignment groups. Results provided logical measures of group differences and an indication of the interplay between these factors, biographical data, and duty assignments. Author
