Report Date:

Abstract:
This report covers the history, present status and proposed program for fiscal 1951. The Naval Ordnance Laboratory is to design, develop and test a fin stabilized, contact fuzed antiaircraft projectile for the 3-inch70 smoothbore gun under design by the Bureau of Ordnance. Two preliminary designs have been completed and pre-evaluation initiated for aerodynamic study and kill effectiveness. Upon completion of detailed designs, models will be built for test firing at the New Mexico School of Mines in the present small chambered gun, using fixed type ammunition if possible. Concurrent engineering study for adaptation of this design to the latest gun and mount designs will be made. It should be possible within the fiscal year 1951 to successfully demonstrate the operability of the 3-inch70 arror shell. Author
