Abstract:

Coherent optical data processing techniques are applied to stereo photography for point transfer, parallax profiling, contour compilation, and reseau detection. A method is presented for the automation of an optical point transfer correlator to derive directional control signals and detect the presence of image distortion. The method was verified experimentally. Optical multichannel parallel processing and holographic techniques were applied to the display and measurement of photographic x-parallax as a function of y coordinate, and the accuracy verified by an AS-11B automated analytical stereoplotter. Interferometric techniques are used to derive contours and hypsoclines from stereo photographs. Holographic techniques, applied to reseau detection, resulted in sub-micron precision of reseau detection and measurement. It is concluded that coherent optical data processing is feasible for photogrammetric data reduction. Author
