Title:
Research on Tropical Rainfall Patterns and Associated Mesoscale Systems.
Corporate Author:
TEXAS A AND M UNIV COLLEGE STATION DEPT OF METEOROLOGY
Report Date:
1968-12-01
Abstract:
The mean rainstorms in seven different areas of Southeast Asia are determined. Also the time of day of these storms is shown. A study of the frequency of wet and dry days in Guyana was made. Rainfall mass distribution curves are drawn for a number of stations in Southeast Asia, and their difference from Martins universal curve are discussed. A study of the variation of rainfall in Venezuela was made using monthly changes. Also the movement of the rains using five day totals showed that the rains started in the western interior and progressed eastward. The coastal stations with orographic barriers have one rainy season while exposed stations have two seasons. The movement of mesoscale systems on the Caribbean littoral of Colombia was investigated using three day totals. The movements were compared with the winds aloft and with the movement of macroscale features. Author
