Abstract:

The Multi-Sensor Screening Viewer M.S.S.V. was developed to provide the photo interpreter with a sophisticated capability for viewing and extracting information from aerial reconnaissance recorded on photographic film. The reconnaissance can consist of multiple sensors or multiple rolls of film from the same type sensor. A high resolution, high illumination viewing capability is provided by a combination of direct and rear projection optical systems. The input film is handled by precision film transports which incorporate direct view light sources, a stereo slack loop and a high accuracy mensuration system. The M.S.S.V. has been human engineered to provide a modular system which will optimize the viewing of up to four rolls of imagery and two 70 by 100 millimeter film chips which contain reference information. An outstanding feature of the M.S.S.V. is the locating of the roll film directly in front of the operator. From this location a particular portion of the film can be viewed directly, in stereo, or by rear projection without necessitating any physical movement of the film. This feature provides complete operator- film orientation regardless of image viewing mode, magnification, rotation, or translation. Author
