Abstract:

During an epidemic of dermatophytosis of the groin which occurred in a sanatorium and which was caused by E floccosum and T rubrum, the following was observed 1 Relative contagiousness of the infection which was limited in general to the groins but which spread eventually to other regions and had a tendency to spontaneous cure. 2 The parasites originated at sources active lesions in the groins and, occasionally, from carriers of fungi on the feed which must have been transmitted indirectly, by means of contaminated articles underwear, bedclothes, towels, sanitary utensils, etc.. 3 The spreading of the disease must have been aided by lack of careful attention to hygiene. 4 In the absence of efficient fungicides to rapidly sterilize the sources, rigorous methods of disinfection of carriers and the practice of good general hygiene is recommended to combat this type of epidemic.
