Title:
FORECASTING MAXIMUM SURFACE TEMPERATURES AT THE NAVAL WEAPONS CENTER,
Corporate Author:

Report Date:

Abstract:
A method for the more efficient forecasting of maximum surface temperatures using upper-air temperatures has been developed at the Naval Weapons Center. The technique involves the use of monthly charts of upper-air temperatures to predict the maximum surface temperatures that can be expected with seasonal changes. This report analyzes the technique and summarizes a study in which the charts were used to predict maximum surface temperatures for the two-year period of 1966 and 1967 for comparison with the actual temperatures observed during that period.
