Title:
OCEAN BOTTOM BREAKOUT FORCES. INCLUDING FIELD TEST DATA AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ANALYTICAL METHOD
Corporate Author:

Report Date:

Abstract:
Theoretical and experimental studies were conducted in order to arrive at some appropriate engineering estimates of the force required to extract bodies of various sizes and shapes from the ocean bottom sediments. A review of the literature concerned with breakout forces is presented. Results yielded by the empirical formula agreed very well with a complicated theoretical procedure based on an iterative solution of a lumped parameter model of the ocean bottom. Solutions were obtained for various load conditions and bottom object geometries.
