Abstract:

A transfer function based on the electric-pneumatic analog theory for small signals is developed for blocked, cylindrical, concentrically cascaded pneumatic transmission lines. Calculations using this transfer function closely compare with 1 experimental results for single 0.170-in. ID lines of several lengths 20 feet and less at mean pressures of 10, 25, and 40 psig and 2 experimental results for a 30.987-in. long, 0.170-in. ID line connected in cascade with a 1.593-in. ID line of several short lengths 7.394 in. and less. The results clearly show that the chamber of a cylindrical-volume-terminated line acts as a second line connected in cascade with the first. The accuracy of the electrical analog transfer function is compared with the accuracy of transfer functions obtained from other models, and a simplified method of calculating the electrical analog transmission line characteristics is presented.
