Abstract:

Lovitt among others points out that the solution of the Volterra, linear, integral equation of the second kind is equivalent to the solution of some n-th order, linear differential equation. With the exception of those integral equations which are soluble by direct differentiation, this equivalence is a little used, yet powerful technique, for solving certain classes of Volterra equations.
