Abstract:

This report describes the design, implementation, and testing of a modification for Kelsh-type direct-viewing optical-projection stereoplotters. When the modification is incorporated with a Kelsh-type plotter and a digital computer, a new plotter system, the hybrid stereoplotter, is created. The hybrid plotter employs mechanical or optical-mechanical analog components to relate photo and model space. A digital computer is programmed to calculate necessary small adjustments to correct the stereo-model in X, Y, Z, and to remove Y parallax. These adjustments are carried out by a servo control system. The hybrid plotter permits correction of model errors caused by inadequate relative and absolute orientations, lens distortion, earth curvature, film shrinkage, and other effects. The corrections are calculated based on discrepancies between the model and plotter spatial locations of control points, and on Y parallax measurements. These errors from the data for a polynomial, or other adjustment of X, Y, Z, and Y parallax as functions of model position of the floating mark. Author
