Report Date:

Abstract:
The most satisfactory method of service life prediction is by extrapolation of a material or component property aging trend to a known failure limit. Accelerated aging data must be correlated with data from normal aging. There are both graphical and mathematical approaches to such correlation and extrapolation, and both involve a degree of judgment. Judgment must also be exercised in the selection of methods to be used for a particular evaluation. When aging trends or failure criteria are not known, service life predictions must be based entirely on judgment guided by what information is available and strongly influenced by a thorough knowledge of motor design and performance requirements.
